Astrea is a horoscope app by Cleonice B.V., Vreelandseweg 43, 1394 BL Nederhorst den Berg, registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (Kamer van Koophandel) under number 34280891. Cleonice B.V. is responsible for what happens to your data. You can email any questions to info@astreaapp.nl.

The starting point: everything stays on your phone

Whatever you enter in Astrea, the app stores on your own phone. That includes the profiles of yourself and others (name, date of birth and, if given, time of birth, place of birth and full name), your journal, your tarot cards, your conversations with the buddy and what the buddy remembers about you. We have no account for you and no copy of that data.

Data only leaves your phone when you use one of the features below, and for the anonymous count. For each feature, we explain what happens.

The chat buddy and answers to your questions

The buddy, the explanation of a tarot spread, the yes-or-no answer and the dream reader work with Claude, artificial intelligence made by the American company Anthropic. Before you use the buddy for the first time, we ask for your consent.

When you ask a question, the app sends the following to our server: your message and the earlier messages in that conversation, what the buddy remembers about you, the name you gave the buddy, the language of the app, and the profile details of the person the question is about (name, date of birth, time of birth and place of birth). Our server passes this on to Anthropic and sends the answer back to your phone. Our server does not store the content of your conversation.

Anthropic does not use this data to train its models and deletes it within 30 days. Only if a message is flagged as abuse may Anthropic keep it longer, for up to two years.

Legal basis: your consent. You can withdraw it at any time by no longer using the buddy.

The daily limit

To prevent abuse, there is a maximum number of questions per day. For this, our server stores, for each question, a random device number that the app created itself, and your IP address, together with a counter. That number says nothing about who you are. It disappears automatically after 36 hours at the latest.

Legal basis: our legitimate interest in keeping the service affordable and available.

Comparing via an invitation link

You can send someone a link so they can fill in their own details. Our server then stores your first name (so the other person can see who the invitation is from) and after that whatever the other person enters: name, date of birth and, if given, time and place of birth. The other person gives their consent for this on the page itself. As soon as your app collects the answer, we delete it from the server. If nobody collects it, it disappears after 14 days.

Moving to a new phone

When you move your data to a new phone, the app creates a 12-character code. Your data goes to our server encrypted with that code. We never receive the code, so we cannot open the package. We delete it as soon as it has been collected, and otherwise after 24 hours.

Horoscopes and notifications

The app fetches the horoscope of the day as general text. It sends no personal data to do so. Your phone schedules the morning notification itself. Reading aloud uses your phone's own voice.

Anonymous counting

To see how Astrea is used, we keep an anonymous count. At most once a day, the app checks in with our server, sending the language of the app, your type of subscription and whether the app is running on this device for the first time. We also count how often the buddy is asked something. We derive the country from the connection. We only keep daily totals, without a device number or IP address, so nothing that could identify you.

Legal basis: our legitimate interest in seeing how the app is used and what the service costs.

What we don't do

Astrea has no ads, no trackers and no third-party analytics services. The anonymous counting described above is done by us, on our own server. We don't sell data and we don't build profiles of users.

Subscriptions

You take out a subscription through Apple. Apple handles the payment. We never see your payment details.

Who helps us

Cloudflare and Anthropic are American companies. As a result, data may be processed outside the European Union. This is done on the basis of the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or the standard contractual clauses of the European Commission. Data processing agreements are in place with both companies.

Age

Astrea is intended for people aged 16 and over. If you are younger, only use the buddy with your parents' permission.

Your rights

You can ask us what data we hold about you, and have it corrected or deleted. Because almost everything is stored only on your phone, you can usually do this yourself: you delete a profile in the app, and if you delete the app, everything is gone. For anything else, email info@astreaapp.nl. If you disagree with how we handle your data, you can lodge a complaint with the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (the Dutch data protection authority).

Changes

If we change this policy, you will see the new version in the app and on this page, with the date at the top.
